Sit And Go Tournaments With A Twist

Poker sites are finally coming around to thinking about what a poker player wants, and these sites are what I consider the true “top poker sites”. There is a new range of tournaments being released and a lot of the sites we list are “jumping on the band wagon” and bringing out there own variation of these popular tournaments.

Jackpot sit and go tournaments have been a huge hit since they were introduced to online poker players. These tournaments are offered by Titan Poker and offer large cash prizes for winning (or finishing second) in a series of sit and go tournaments. More specific information regarding these tournaments can be found on the JackPot tournament page.

Phase tournaments work in a way that players starting with a very small investment can end up winning large cash prizes. PKR is the only poker site to offer this variation of tournament. There are five phases for players to work there way through, if players can get to the final fifth phase and finish in the top four of the ten man tournament they will be rewarded with cash prizes ranging in size from $700 through to $200, not a bad return if you started from a $4 investment. Read more about PKR’s phase tournaments.

Step tournaments are offered by both Cake Poker and PokerStars. Cake Poker’s step tournaments award players with entry in to larger tournaments such as the Cake Poker weekly $100,000 and the PokerStars step tournaments offer seats at live events such as the EPT (European Poker Tour) and the PCA (PokerStars Caribbean Adventure).

The setup for step tournaments varies from site to site, although a basic structure works with a series of “levels”, players work there way through levels by finishing in a certain position. Players are rewarded with entry to the next step, and after a series of steps the player makes the final table from here prizes are awarded.

Any Value For Players?

Players may find they get more value by participating in these tournaments. Personally I know some players who buy in directly to the final “phase” in pkr phase tournaments rather then standard high stakes sit and go’s because they find the opposition much weaker. Although players trying to win their way to the final phase may find themselves in the fourth phase, suffering a bad beat, and not receiving anything for all of their hard work.

Some Titan Poker players may find the increased rake (16-20%!) taken from the jackpot sit and go’s to much to pay, although it can also be said that the opposition is weaker and the opportunity to win large jackpots is tempting enough to willingly pay the additional rake fee.
