PokerStars Sunday Million Overview
The PokerStars Sunday Million tournament is the largest weekly online poker tournament. The tournament regularly exceeds the $1,500,000 prizepool which is guaranteed, and normally you will find in excess of 7,000 players participating.
The PokerStars Sunday Million tournament starts at 9:30PM GMTevery Sunday and players can register by finding the tournament through the PokerStars lobby, which you can view once you have downloaded PokerStars. Originally the tournament had a $1,000,000 prizepool guaranteed but this was increased to $1,500,000 as the tournament was regularly exceeding the original $1,000,000 prizepool. With the size still increasing regularly week on week, players can expect to see the first $2 million weekly tournament being run in the not so distant future.
Sunday Million Information
PokerStars Sunday Million is run in a way that benefits skilled poker players. With blinds increasing every 15 minutes and 10,000 starting chips, it allows players to not feel rushed in to playing unnecessary hands. The blinds start at 25/50 and no forced ante is paid until the 8th round, approximately 2 hours in to the tournament. The top 15% of entrants are paid, although to make any serious return on investment you’d have to “go deep” in to the tournament. Players making the final table can expect $10,000 for their efforts, with the winner often winning over $150,000.
Sunday Million Satellites
There are a massive number of ways to win your entry to the Sunday Million. Tournaments are run around the clock, which is why the entry field is so big and still increasing. Below we have listed our favourite PokerStars sunday million satellites which should make the task of qualifying for the Sunday Million easier. The number of satellites PokerStars run is growing quickly, so we recommend checking the pokerstars client for the latest available satellites.
PokerStars Sit And Go Sunday Million Satellites
PokerStars runs Sunday million sit and go tournaments around the clock, there are smaller tournaments starting from $2.20 in size and larger buy in sit and go tournaments that cost up to $70 to enter. For each $215 in the prizepool there is one entry to the Sunday million awarded. These tournaments are great because you’ll often find weak players, unable to pay the $215 Sunday million buyin cost, trying to win their way in to the tournament.
The $2.20 No Limit Holdem (6 Max) Triple Shootout Satellites are run around the clock, and starts as soon as 216 players have entered the tournament. This sit and go features some frantic action in the first round, with such a low buyin players often treat this as a lottery, hoping to get lucky and build a big cheap lead early. My advice to you would be to take things steady in the opening rounds, with 5 minute blind levels and 6 max tables you can definitely pick the right spot to win some chips and build your stack. The prize of entry to the Sunday million is given to the top 2 players and third place is awarded $2.
The $16 No Limit Holdem Satellites uses the standard sit and go format, and starts when 30 players have registered. Blinds increase every 5 minutes, and players are given 1500 chips to start with. The tournament seats 10 players on 3 tables, and players will be moved from table to table as players are eliminated. The top 2 players are given entry to the Sunday million event while third place picks up $30. This tournament still involves a lot of luck, although skilled poker players will have an advantage with this tournament format.
The $70 Turbo Satelliteawards 3 Sunday Million seats. Blind levels increase every 5 minutes and players start with 1500 chips. This tournament is identical to the standard turbo sit and go tournaments that PokerStars run, although in this tournament 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are all awarded the same prize, a Sunday million entry.
PokerStars Sunday Million Multi Table Satellites
Along with awesome sit and go satellites PokerStars also offer some excellent Multi Table Sunday Million satellites. They usually run between 2 and 4 satellites an hour, and normally they “guarantee” a certain amount of seats, occasionally there is a small overlay which provides players with added value!
The $11.70 DS (Double Shootout) Turbo Satellites are the most regularly run Sunday Million MTT satellites. 2 Sunday Million seats are guaranteed in these events, although at peak times often there will be more added to the prizepool. For each additional $215 in entry’s one seat is added to the pool. The format is like the standard Double Shootout format, you can find out more about this on format on the PokerStars website.
The $39 Sunday Million Satellites are ideal for players who enjoy tournaments with a long, slow format. In a tournament with a slow format you’ll often find more skilled players do well. For each 6 entrants there is one Sunday Million entry added to the prizepool, so finish in the top 15(ish)% and you’ll receive your entry! The blind levels are increased every 15 minutes and you’ll start with 1500 chips.
