If you play 3 card poker then you certainly know that there is a range of payouts where a player can win from 1:1 up to 50:1 or even better! You’ll find by going to a 3cardpoker site that often payouts vary from casino to casino. This popular table game can really pay off in a major manner. And although it offers some pretty good odds on basic play, one bettor in Atlantic City recently found out how massive a payout can be when incorporated with a side bet.

A Bit Complex

The thing to realize is that although the game of 3 card poker is fairly basic that payouts can be confusing. They’re so confusing that when Richard N. Wood of Newport News Va, won $100,000 on November 24, 2011 at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City for a few minutes he was not sure what had happened.

When Wood, who was playing the popular table game on Black Friday, was told that his royal flush paired with the dealer’s hand had resulted in a $100,000 payoff he said later, “When they told me I almost had a heart attack. It’s a day I’ll never forget.”

Understanding Payouts

Payouts in 3 card poker are dependent on three factors. Initially, a player wins a 1:1 bet on their ante when they beat the dealer. However, the dealer’s hand must quality for the player’s wager to pay. Otherwise, it is simply a push and they get their bet back.

A player can also win extra cash on their basic bet when they hit certain hands. In essence, this is an automatic bonus for getting a good hand. As an example, a flush may pay 4:1 and a straight 6:1.

The third element is not based on the player’s ante bet but instead on a side wager. In 3 card poker it’s called the Pairs Plus Bet and this is the aspect of the game that can get quite confusing. Rules and winnings for 3 card poker vary a lot from casino to casino with this side bet.

Many of these side bets pay 1:1, but there are those that offer much higher odds and some are so large they simply give the winner a large flat sum of cash that is not based on how much that’s been bet. Of course, they are hard to hit but the fact is Wood did manage to take down a big payout.

How He Won

Wood won his big prize with a hand that included his and the dealers. The biggest payout at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City is for a six-card super diamond flush to the nine. That is worth $1 million. A player won that in October. Payouts are partly determined by the suit the player gets. Wood’s Pairs Plus Bet, which was $20, was won by his combining his cards with the dealer’s to create a royal flush in hearts.

When the 72-year-old Wood was asked if he’d be using some of his winnings to buy Christmas presents on Black Friday, which in the U.S. is the name for the day after Thanksgiving that is a major Christmas shopping day, he replied, “I think I’ll leave the shopping to my wife.”

Shop Around

Although the payout above occurred at a land-based casino, players who want to place Pairs Plus Bets online should shop around from site to site since payouts really do vary and some casinos will have special promotions. Any time a player places a side bet, they should be aware that those Pairs Plus Bets that provide big money are extremely difficult to win. Still, 3 card poker can and does payout in a major way for some lucky players.

It’s happening in Texas Holden online tournaments and at land-based events—the re-entry tournament. It’s a bit like the rebuy tournament but it’s a littler different too. With the rebuy, while the event is going-on, players may purchase more chips.

Rules vary on rebuys, but the standard event involves players sitting at the table and after they have been knocked out buying into the tournament again. This usually occurs after the player has run out of chips but in some events players may simply “add on” to their stack no matter how many chips they have. At TexasHoldemonline.com, you’ll find that just about every site featured provides players with some type of rebuy experience.

Re-entry Tournaments

The new trend, and this is happening in the professional ranks as well as amateur, is to offer a tournament that has two different first rounds. Normally when a player in a tournament is knocked out that’s it. They cannot buy their way back into it. For those who have played in a Texas Holdem tournament online, this is normal operating procedure.

But with the re-entry tourney, if a player is knocked out in the first round of day one, they may buy a seat to the second day of first round play. That’s because re-entry tournaments have two first rounds—a day one and day and these are completely separate from one another. Players who are still in the tournament after either day one or two of the first round proceed to the second round.

The players who played in the initial day and survived don’t compete in the second day. Instead, they wait for that the day two of round one to end and then on the third day of that tournament, the start of round two, they compete against the survivors of the two days of separate first round play.

Those who do get knocked out on the initial day of first round play may buy-in again, playing in day two and getting another chance to make it to the second round. It’s an example of poker rooms trying to be innovative by giving those who play Texas Holdem online and at land-based poker establishments a new way of competing.

Not Everyone Likes It

For some who compete in Texas Holdem online and land tournaments, the re-entry event is seen as creating on odd competitive edge for the loser. A player who has done well in round one of the first day, knocking out various opponents, can find themselves in round two facing some of those players they had dispatched on the

first day. That’s because those players who originally lost have come back into the event by paying the re-entry fee and in day two of round one have survived.

Not only that but that player who had been beaten badly in the first day of round one play may now be sitting at the same table with the player who knocked them out originally and with a higher chip count! That situation frustrates some poker players as they feel the competitive edge they gained in their initial round means little to nothing.

The Re-Entry is Here to Stay

However, whether you like it or not, the re-entry tournament looks as if it is here to stay. By expanding round one competition to two days, tournaments can accommodate more players and by allowing players to pay and play again in day two of the first round, the tournament collects more entry fees and makes more cash. Whether playing Texas Holdem online or at a land-based room, players will find the re-entry tournament on-hand and may decide to take advantage of a second day of round one play if they do poorly in the first day. If anything, it certainly makes for an interesting second round.

An email has been sent out to poker players outlining that Poker Bots are still being used on many online poker rooms, amid the recent media interest over Full Tilt Poker acting to ban accounts suspected of using them.

An email which has been sent out to all users who have downloaded a free trial of the poker playing robot software reveals that a large number of players lay claim that they were using their bots at the time that UB Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot broke this week, seeing a large number of players profit from their activity, winning $103 per table they were playing at.

The email explains that due to the reduced ability that floods the special Bad Beat tables whenever the jackpot amount reaches over $300,000, players were making a huge profit from their usage of the software, some players stating that they were using the ‘illegal’ software on up to four tables at the time that the jackpot was won.

Although no one has come forward to say that they were seated at the actual table in which the jackpot was unlocked, thoughts are that even if someone had been seated at the actual table and had received more winnings, they wouldn’t have been forthcoming to share the fact that they did so in the fear they could have the funds removed.

Bonus Bots, the company in which created the program claims that thousands of players have made tens of thousands at the tables from simply entering into $0.25/$0.50 tables that qualify within the Bad Beat Jackpot promotion.

The emails says that even by using the default profile in which is included with the software, players have been able to overcome loose players and earn a healthy bankroll during their time of using the software.

The latest reveal of poker bots winning within the online poker environment comes after Full Tilt Poker was named and shamed by a player who claimed to have won over $200,000 over the last 18 months at the site before his account was banned for using the software.

The player who made the claim also said that he felt that the worlds second largest online poker room must have known about his methods and said that they seemed to simply tolerate his usage due to the amount of rake that he was generating during his sessions, also adding that over the last 6 months of his time using the program, he had upped his usage by over 200%.

The news that poker bots are still being used to win poker players money is sure to rock a number of players who are thinking about taking a step into the online world of poker playing and could well deter a number from moving into the online industry from the live game in the fear that they are up against robots rather than a human player.

Online poker rooms are consistently trying to prevent software from being able to access their data feeds in order to kill poker bots completely but with the programming abilities of a number of developers on the internet today, it seems that the battle will remain ongoing for a number of years yet.
