4 Online Poker Tournament Tips

This is just a quick short article listing 4 online poker tournament tips that will hopefully increase your online poker tournament profits!

#1 Give Yourself Time!

This is a key skill in nearly every aspect of internet poker. There is nothing worse then chasing around, trying to get an internet connection or even trying to start your computer 5 minutes before a poker tournament is due to start. Have everything you may require within arms length of you, if you aren’t prepared you aren’t giving yourself the best possible chance of winning the tournament. Turn off or take away any unwanted distractions.

#2 Be Prepared To Be Sucked Out On!

If you have played poker, especially online tournament poker before you will know that the standard of skill varies from players to player greatly. Some players taking part are new to the game and as poker is a game of skill you will find that there are a lot of “bad beats” and “suckouts” from these players. You shouldn’t ever “expect” to win a tournament as with many, especially the larger poker tournaments, thousands of players are often taking part.

#3 Know Your Structure!

Before registering for a tournament you should definitely check out the structure. The amount of chips you are given to start with, and the amount of time between blind increases both have an impact on the length of the tournament. If you are unsure about the amount of time you should put aside for a tournament you may be able to find last weeks tournament in the lobby of the software client and this will give you a good indication as to how long the tournament will take.

#4 Shop Around!

If you are only playing online poker tournaments at one site you are minimising your chances of winning big. As a tournament player myself I regularly participate in tournaments at 5 different online poker sites. PokerStars is the largest online poker tournament site, but sometimes I don’t have the time to play in the tournaments they host, if this is the case I often check out what Cake Poker and Titan Poker are offering.
